Thomas Friedman in "The World is Flat" talks about how we're practically in last place in the world when it comes to those two things alone and America created the technology!

And a great point "a President does not institute policy." We need to stop blaming and criticizing presidents for issues and situations that are out of their control. And start holding them more accountable for the things that are.
